Everyone agrees Spektor Dental is a family business. Founder Wendy Shultz Spektor, DDS, general and cosmetic dentist; husband and periodontist, Michael Spektor, DDS; dedicated staff members, and new associates—all help care for four generations of loyal patients.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been that long,” exclaims Dr. Wendy Spektor, or ‘Dr. Wendy’. “We’re grateful to our patients for placing their trust and confidence in our care—it’s our joy to give them the best, healthiest smiles.”
A native of Bellevue, Wendy attended Interlake High School and graduated with honors from the University of Texas before receiving her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Washington School of Dentistry. A petite bundle of non-stop energy and exuberance, Dr. Wendy founded Spektor Dental in Bellevue more than 30 years ago. In 2007, she and Dr. Michael combined their general cosmetic dental and periodontal practices and moved to Bellegrove Professional Park, conveniently tucked off 116th Avenue just north of Overlake Hospital and across the street from Seattle Children’s, with ample free parking. The shared space means patients have the convenience of comprehensive care in a single location and closer communication for coordinated care between their general dentist office and periodontal office.
Since then, the team has expanded to include Molly McIntosh, DDS; Danny Tremblay, DDS; Lily Du, DDS (who is fluent in Mandarin); and most recently, David Baird, DDS; as well as five talented hygienists. Between them, their skill sets cover most every dental need–preventive, restorative or cosmetic–including implants, Invisalign orthodontics, dentures, and prosthodontic care. Continuing dental education is a priority for the entire team to remain on the leading edge of dentistry.
All are welcomed in a bright, spacious reception area with large flat-screen TVs, local artwork, fresh flowers, water and coffee service, and a children’s enclosed play area. The office’s finest asset is the team itself—with receptionists who greet patients by name with a smile and ask after family and pets. “We care for people, for a community. It’s not just about teeth,” Wendy says.
The importance of overall health and wellness carries throughout the practice, especially as oral health is now a recognized integral component of systemic health. “Many chronic health conditions are connected to oral health, such as HPV, heart disease, and diabetes,” explains Dr. Wendy. “We know you may see us (your dentist) two or three times a year and your primary care doctor once a year, if that. We take oral health screening very seriously and will refer you to your physician if we note anything suspicious. Early detection is critical for so many health issues.”
The Spektors are passionate about oral health and wellness, from local to global concerns. Both are past presidents of Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity and, along with Dr. Danny, are active in the AO-Henry Schein Cares Holocaust Survivors Oral Health Program. They also remain closely connected to the University of Washington Dental Alumni Association. “We both had excellent mentors on our dental career journey, and it’s our turn to provide the same support for other young dentists,” Wendy explains. One of Wendy’s first mentors at the UW School of Dentistry was Dr. Baird, who combined his practice with Spektor Dental this fall. “It felt like the right time,” Dr. Baird says. “And there is no one I trust more than Wendy to help care for my patients.”
When she isn’t providing exceptional dental care, you can find Dr. Wendy cheering on the Seahawks and other local teams, lecturing near and abroad to peers on dental techniques, including minimally-invasive dentistry and the business of dentistry, and educating communities on the importance of taking care of their oral health. “We have such opportunity!” she says. “Whereas our parents resigned themselves to losing their teeth and functionality with age, we can now enjoy healthy, vibrant smiles for a lifetime.”
Even as the practice has grown steadily, Spektor Dental has kept a very intimate atmosphere. Every team member’s goal is to make each patient feel warmly welcomed and well cared for at every visit. This dedication has not gone unnoticed: Dr. Wendy Spektor and the Spektor Dental team have been honored to be named 425 Magazine’s Best Dentist and/or Best Cosmetic Dentist every year since 2011. Dr. Wendy and Dr. Michael Spektor have been frequently recognized by their peers in Seattle Metropolitan magazine as Top Dentists and by the Bellevue Reporter as Bellevue’s Best Dentist.
“Oy! I’m not saying it’s easy,” Dr. Wendy exclaims. “We all have to work very hard to be present for our patients and for each other when things get hectic. But at the end of the day, that’s what truly counts.”
